Benefit Enrollment Tips

  • You must register as a new user the first time you access the BCC website to access your 2014 benefit information
  • Your open enrollment is not completed until you select the 'Finish' link on the last screen

The City contracts with CalPERS for medical coverage. CalPERS has added five new HMO plans for the 2014 plan year. During 2014 you will  have the choice of two Anthem plans, two Health Net plans and one UnitedHealthcare plan. Blue Shield and Kaiser HMO’s are also available. The PPO plan choices include; PERS Select, PERS Choice, and PERSCare. All PPO plans are Anthem Blue Cross plans. PORAC is available for safety members. 

Dental plans are provided through Delta and your choices are Delta Care (DHMO), Delta DPO Basic and Delta DPO Buy-Up. Vision plans are through VSP and your choices are VSP Basic and VSP Buy-Up. 

Important Changes To Be Aware of January 1, 2014

  • In addition to the medical plans available during 2013, five new medical plans have been added. Click here to view CalPERS Video Presenting the 2014 CalPERS Health Plans  
  • Dental coverage will include coverage for cleft lips and palates
  • Medical coverage will include coverage for medically necessary Applied Behavior Analysis Therapy
  • A Specialty Preferred Drug Strategy encourages the use of certain categories of lower cost, clinically appropriate prescription drugs where feasible.

Important Reminders

  • If waiving medical insurance through the City, you must provide documentation of other Group Coverage
  • Adding a dependent requires documentation of eligibility:
  • Children may remain on your medical, dental, vision and life insurance plans until the age of 26
  • Upon member's request, the member will pay the cost difference between the brand medication and a generic equivalent, plus the generic co-pay when a Food and Drug Administration approved generic equivalent is available
