The City of Ontario has four school districts:
| |
|
Ontario's primary and secondary schools place an emphasis on academic excellence including fundamental skills essential for continuing learning and provide students opportunities to prepare them for responsible citizenship and career options.
Ontario's high school students attend one of the City's three high schools. Chaffey High School, named for Ontario's founding family, is located on Euclid Avenue and is situated on 65 acres. The cornerstone for the original school, Chaffey College of Agriculture, was laid in 1883 and the school was opened in 1885. After separating from the University of Southern California, the campus became a high school in 1901. Ontario High School is located on West Francis Street and the new Colony High School on East Riverside Drive in Southeast Ontario.

Ontario Libraries
Furthering student learning and reading skills is the Ontario City Library. The newly renovated Main City Library is located within the Ontario Civic Center while Colony High School is home to South Ontario's Branch Library. Both provide day, evening and weekend hours, and ongoing programs such as Toddler Storytime, Preschool Storytime and Afterschool Adventure Storytime. The libraries also feature seasonal programs and events for the entire family. |

Ontario NASA Science and Technology Learning Center
To promote science and technology education as a career path for students, the City of Ontario also provides access to the Ontario NASA Science and Technology Learning Center (STLC). The STLC's multi-faceted science and technology educational programs include K-12 teacher training, student programs, service learning and mentoring, as well as college and university student service learning and mentoring.
Ontario's libraries also feature the 'Ambassadors to the Stars' program. The program utilizes the interactive STAR LAB - a 16 foot in diameter, easily transportable, inflatable planetarium.
Vivid images are projected on the inside of the dome that visually illustrate and demonstrate star fields, constellations, the solar system and galaxy. The Ambassadors to the Stars program facilitates presentations by students ages 11 years and older who have gained content understanding of astronomy, completed training in how to use and present STAR LAB, and who are developing presentation skills. Through the project, students have a tremendous service learning opportunity that can ultimately inspire pursuit of science, mathematics and technology as an education or career path. |
