Colleges and Universities
 
 
From two-year, community colleges offering affordable, college level programs and courses - to colleges and universities (those part of a state system as well as those privately owned and operated) the Ontario region provides many opportunities for higher learning.

Within a half hour of Ontario, residents and firms have access to 22 campuses with a combined fall 2007 enrollment of 188,881. The list includes nationally known private, liberal arts schools like the Claremont Colleges and the University of Redlands. Advanced scientific work is being conducted at Harvey Mudd College and the University of California, Riverside. California Polytechnic University, Pomona graduates some of the top engineers in the country, and Loma Linda University boasts one of the top medical schools in the world. In addition, the Accredited University of La Verne School of Law is located in Ontario's Civic Center District. Plus- there are five community colleges, including Chaffey College, with an outreach center in Ontario.

California Baptist University

Located on an 80-acre campus, California Baptist University is affiliated with the California Baptist Convention and is fully accredited. Undergraduate programs include traditional and evening college courses. Masters programs include Business Administration, Education, English and Counseling Psychology.


California Polytechnic University, Pomona

Cal Poly Pomona, the second largest in area of the California State University's twenty campuses, encompasses 1,438 acres and has seven academic colleges. The College of Agriculture offers major, minor and master's degree programs, and provides more than 700 acres of university-owned land for pastures, crops, groves and ornamental plantings. The College of Business Administration has received worldwide recognition for its undergraduate and graduate programs, with the International Business and Marketing department offering one of the widest course selections in the country.

The College of Engineering has one of the largest undergraduate engineering enrollments of any university west of the Rocky Mountains, graduates one of every 14 new engineers in California, and offers the only accredited Manufacturing Engineering programs in Southern California. The College of Environmental Design is one of the most highly respected in the nation. The College of Science encompasses special institutes including the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Biology.

Meanwhile, Cal Poly's Collins School of Hospitality Management is among the top ten hospitality management schools in the United States. The university also includes the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation to equip students, faculty, entrepreneurs and executives with marketing plans, demographics, product evaluations, packaging, promotion and distribution skills relevant to 21st century business practices.


California State University, San Bernardino

California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is distinguished for the prestigious national accreditation of its College of Business and Public Administration. In addition to an M.B.A. program specially tailored for executives, the university has highly respected programs in Computer Science, Geographic Information and Decision Sciences, Psychology, Health and Public Administration, Accounting and Finance, as well as a nationally acclaimed Writing program. CSUSB's Teacher Preparation program is one of the nation's ten largest. Moreover, CSUSB's extended education programs in Business Writing and Language Skills, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Conference Management are some of the busiest in the state.


Chapman University

Recognized for its liberal arts core, Chapman University is comprised of eight schools and colleges: Business and Economics, Communication Arts, Education, Film and Television, Law, Music, and Letters and Sciences. Chapman is ranked in the top-tier of western region masters universities by U.S. News & World Report, listed as "very competitive" by Barron's, and as among 400 colleges that "routinely attracts and admits an above-average share of the nation's highest achieving students." Chapman is also one of only 100 American colleges and universities recognized by the Templeton Guide: Colleges that Encourage Character Development.


Claremont McKenna College

Claremont McKenna College is a highly selective, independent, coeducational, undergraduate liberal arts college recognized for educating future leaders in business and public affairs. While fostering critical inquiry and responsible leadership in business, government and the professions, Claremont McKenna curriculum emphasizes economics and political science. With the motto 'crescit cum commercio civitas' (civilization prospers with commerce), the Claremont McKenna campus encompasses nearly 50 acres.


Claremont Graduate University

Widely recognized for its unqualified dedication to teaching, learning and civic engagement, Claremont Graduate University (CGU) is a small, highly focused, graduate-only institution. On a 19-acre, tree-lined campus, seven academic schools and two independent departments award master's and doctoral degrees in 22 disciplines. Instruction is delivered by internationally recognized faculty in small settings and students are encouraged to pursue personal academic interests and research agendas even when they transcend the boundaries between individual departments.


DeVry University Institute of Technology

DeVry provides career-oriented undergraduate programs in business and technology to high school graduates and working adults. Master's degree programs are also offered. DeVry's technology-based degree programs integrate general education with industry-specific coursework to enhance graduates' personal development and career potential. DeVry also assists students in attaining their career goals outside of the classroom by providing assistance with part-time and post-graduate career opportunities.


Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is widely known as the oldest, largest and most prestigious aviation and aerospace university in the world. Curriculum covers the operation, engineering, research, manufacturing, marketing and management of modern aircraft and the systems that support them. Undergraduate programs include: Aircraft Maintenance, Aviation Business Administration, Professional Aeronautics and Management of Technical Operations. Graduate programs include Administration in Aviation, Technical Management and Aeronautical Science with specializations offered in Aeronautics, Human Factors, Management, Operations and Safety.


A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management

Focusing on educating the business leaders of tomorrow, the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management stresses both the 'art and science' of management. Analytical skills are honed in the functional areas of accounting, management science, marketing, finance and information systems. Integrated throughout the curriculum are organizational behavior, human resources management and strategy. Meanwhile, the Anderson School also offers courses and related experience in entrepreneurial management --- providing essential tools for the manger motivated to start and successfully grown a new venture, as well as for the manager who wants to be more creative in an existing corporate setting. The school offers an innovative M.B.A. program as well as an interdisciplinary undergraduate major in Business Administration.


Harvey Mudd College

Ranked first in the "Individual Academic Attention Given to Students" by Kaplan's Newsweek, Harvey Mudd College (HMC) educates undergraduate men and women in a demanding academic setting focusing on mathematics, science and engineering while providing a rich background in the humanities and social sciences. HMC is recognized for the best undergraduate chemistry program in the nation by RUGG's Recommendations on Colleges and is ranked number one in engineering schools by U.S. News and World Report. HMC also leads the nation in the percentage of graduates who go on to earn the Ph. D. As reported by Kaplan/Newsweek, HMC ranks among the top five U.S. college and university 'think tanks.' Each year, approximately forty top companies, organizations and agencies sponsor clinic projects at HMC challenging students to solve real problems such as designing an alternative lighting system for NASA for workstations aboard the space shuttle, and implementing a fiber optic flight system test-bed bus for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.


ITT Technology Institute

Committed to helping men and women develop skills and knowledge top pursue opportunities in fields involving technology, ITT Technical Institute programs prepare students for careers in electronics, Web development, computer programming, computer networking, and computer drafting and design. While emphasizing technical areas that have practical value in the work place, ITT Tech focuses on helping students develop problem solving, critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills.


Keck Graduate University of Applied Life Sciences

As the only American graduate school dedicated exclusively to the emerging fields of the applied life sciences, Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) provides education to prepare students for industry leadership in the biosciences. Industry/academic partnership is the cornerstone of KGI's curriculum and research toward rapidly emerging discoveries. Fundamentally interdisciplinary, the M.B.S. degree program emphasizes biological systems, computational biology and bioengineering, along with management, ethics and business policy. The result is a practical understanding of the results-oriented, collaborative culture in which scientists and technologists in industry function. Keller Graduate School of Management

La Sierra University

La Sierra University is a Seventh-day Adventist institution situated on a lush 100-acre campus. Fully networked for technology, the campus includes a museum of natural history, an observatory and a visual arts center and gallery. The College of Arts and Sciences and the Schools of Business and Management, Education and Religion offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees. The curriculum is comprehensive and includes a challenging honors program.


Loma Linda University

Loma Linda University is a health science university and part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church's system of higher education. Seven schools and the Faculty of Religion comprise the University organization. More than 55 programs are offered by the schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Public Health and the Graduate School.

Highly regarded as one of the top medical schools in the world, Loma Linda University's School of Medicine has always endeavored to combine the best medical science with caring, Christian compassion. The School of Dentistry inspires and teaches dental care that is comprehensive in its technical excellence and in its orientation to awareness of the total health needs of the individual patient. The School of Nursing is dedicated to excellence in nursing science and practice for the development of clinicians, educators, administrators and researchers.

Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management

The school attracts outstanding students from around the world and celebrates a growing list of influential alumni, corporate sponsors and recruiting companies. Peter Drucker's respect for the values of education, personal responsibility and business' accountability to society, are deeply embedded in the philosophy of the school that bears his name. As ranked by U.S. News and World Report, the Drucker M.B.A. program rates twentieth nationally in General Management.


Pomona College

Widely regarded as one of the premier liberal arts colleges in America, the Pomona College is an independent, coeducational institution offering 44 majors in the Natural Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Fine Arts. The college's education program requires students to take courses in ten broad intellectual skill areas deemed essential to a liberal education. The Pomona faculty is made up of accomplished teacher-scholars and professors, not graduate assistants, teach all classes including laboratory sections in the sciences. Established in 1887 and situated on a 140-acre campus, Pomona College is the founding member of The Claremont Colleges, a consortium of seven independent institutions.


Scripps College

A women's college, Scripps emphasizes a challenging core curriculum based on interdisciplinary humanistic studies, combined with rigorous training in the disciplines, as the best possible foundation of a liberal arts education. The interdisciplinary emphasis of the curriculum has always been a hallmark of a Scripps education. From its founding in 1926 as one of the few institutions in the West dedicated to educating women for professional careers as well as personal growth, Scripps College has championed the qualities of mind and spirit, and provides an excellent environment for intellectually ambitious women to learn from a distinguished teaching faculty and from each other.


University of California, Riverside

University of California Riverside’s (UCR) 1,200-acre campus is the fastest growing and most ethnically diverse of the ten campuses of the University of California. A major research facility, UCR includes colleges of: Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences; Natural and Agricultural Sciences; Engineering; and Education. UCR offers 101 undergraduate majors, 50 master's degree programs, 39 Ph.D. programs and seven state teaching and administrative credentials.

The UCR/UCLA program in Biomedical Sciences offers a track to obtaining both the B.S. and M.D. degrees. The Agricultural Experimental Station is the world's premiere research institution for citrus. Among its many discoveries is the nearly seedless Oroblanco grapefruit, lauded by citrus lovers as the sweetest, juiciest and quickest to ripen ever picked from a tree.

Attracting dancers from all over the world who document and perpetuate the art form, UCR's doctoral program in Dance History and Theory is the only one of its kind in the nation. For future teachers, the UCR Comprehensive Teacher Education Institute (CTEI) is acknowledged as the nation's most distinguished program in teacher education by the Association of Teacher Educators.

UCR consistently ranks in the top two for the number of faculty named fellows of the prestigious American Academy for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).


University of La Verne

A coeducational university with an undergraduate emphasis on liberal arts, the University of La Verne is academically organized into the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Global Studies, and the School of Organizational Management. Additionally, the Accredited La Verne College of Law is located in Ontario. For its undergraduates, the University offers a challenging general education program, as well as a strong knowledge base in a particular discipline. Undergraduate degrees are offered in a wide variety of academic subjects. Graduate programs seek to integrate theory and practice. Doctorates are available in Law and Education.

University of La Verne College of Law, the Inland region's only ABA-approved law school, has established a new student organization: the Society of Legal Studies and Business. The organization is aimed at helping law students in ULV's dual degree programs (J.D./M.B.A. and J.D./M.P.A.) navigate the unique challenges of pursuing two graduate degrees simultaneously. It is also expected to promote open dialogue among ULV students interested in pursuing careers in corporate legal practice. University of Redlands

The University of Redlands is a private, independent liberal arts university committed to providing a personalized education that encourages students to make enlightened choices. The university’s beautiful residential campus hosts the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education. The School of Business locates its programs on the Redlands campus and in staffed regional campuses throughout Southern California, including Rancho Cucamonga/Ontario. High school and transfer students will be interested in the College of Arts and Sciences, which is a vibrant community of students and faculty. The two professional schools focus on working adults: the School of Education and the School of Business.


Western University of Health Sciences

Western University of Health Sciences, located in Pomona, Calif., is an independent nonprofit health professions university founded in 1977, and is one of the most unique university settings in the U.S., with a graduate enrollment of nearly 2,500 students. The university is located in the heart of downtown Pomona near a bustling business and arts district. WesternU was co-founded by its current president, Philip Pumerantz, on two important principles: educating health care professionals to be skillful and compassionate. The university confers degrees in nursing, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies and veterinary medicine. In 2009, the university will admit students to new degree programs in dentistry, optometry, podiatry and graduate studies.
