Education is an Ontario tradition that goes back to the City's founding. In the 1880's, the Chaffey brothers gave 340 acres to the University of Southern California to form an agricultural college that later became Chaffey College. The site is now Chaffey High School.
Today, there are 31 public schools in Ontario. The Ontario-Montclair and Mountain View School District serve the city's K-8 students. In fact, the Ontario-Montclair School District boasts the second largest elementary school population in the state. Ontario's K-8 students feed into the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, a system of nine regional high schools, including four from Ontario. The four Ontario High Schools are: Chaffey High School, Ontario High School, Valley View High School and Canyon High School.
