Southern California's magnificent San Bernardino Mountains offer a splendor of alpine beauty. Ontario is "The Gateway" to discovering all the year-round, outdoor recreation and adventure the mountain resorts have to offer. | |
Wrightwood is just 35 minutes from ontario, Lake Arrowhead is within 45 minutes and Big Bear Lake, at a majestic 7,000 feet, is a spectacularly scenic 60-minute commute.
These pristine destinations offer a variety of activities for outdoor recreation and adventure enthusiasts to do year-round.
In the Winter, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing and inner tubing are thrilling throughout Winter and even as the season becomes early Spring. Adventure enthusiasts can hike or mountain bike. Hundreds of miles of scenic national forest mountain trails are open year-round, and rangers and naturalists are available to provide details about the backwoods. Mountain bikers are especially fond of the forest trails and hilly terrain – this is mountain biking at its best!
Guided tours by jeep of the San Bernardino National Forest are an intriguing way to enjoy the scenery. Rough riding in "4-wheelers" offers adventure – and for real extremists, there is "off-roading" down one of the steepest original trails to Big Bear, a route miners traversed more than a century ago.
With Summer weather, almost any way to water-play is happening: water skis, wakeboards, jet skis, sea doos, banana boats, motor boats, sailboats, pontoons, canoes, kayaks and more! Windsurfing is exciting out on the lakes and parasailing is an exhilarating way to see it all from the sky. The picturesque lakes are well stocked with fish, Spring through Autumn, for great fishing. Back on dry land for horseback riding, choose your terrain: open gentle slopes or challenging mountain trails.
Wrightwood
In Wrightwood, Mountain High Resort welcomes visitors with two distinctly different mountains and a wide variety of lifts and trails. The east resort stretches 1.6 miles up the mountain, offering great cruising trails and powder runs. The west resort is equally impressive and loaded with both technical terrain and wide-open beginners areas.
Lake Arrowhead
Lake Arrowhead is nestled in a forest of pine, cedar and dogwood, and completely surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. With hiking, camping, lake tours, snow skiing and ice skating, day trips for outdoor recreation are easily accommodated here. Lake Arrowhead Village also offers fun and intriguing shopping.
Big Bear Lake
Big Bear Lake offers year-round recreation, an alpine lake, two premier ski resorts and 46,000 acres of National Forest. From the alpine slide to the water slide, and with biking, boating, camping, fishing, hiking horseback riding, parasailing, skateboarding, skiing, snowboarding, swimming, a solar observatory and 300 days of sunshine a year, there's always something fun to do in Big Bear! |
