The C.O.P.S. unit strives to identify and resolve community problems, rather than just responding to calls for service. We will address the source of the problem instead of the symptoms; officers more effectively address the community concerns. The C.O.P.S. unit act as a liaison between city departments and outside agencies to assist in cleaning up the problem.
Some of the problems the C.O.P.S. unit has addressed are illegal street racing, graffiti, illegal vendors, truancy/curfew violations, and prostitution. Officers are currently involved in programs such as Crime Free Multi-housing, Operation Beverage Control (ABC) Enforcement, and DUI/License Checkpoints.
Community policing allows for an open line of communication between members of the community and an officer.
