CODE ENFORCEMENT

What is Code Enforcement?

The City of Ontario Code Enforcement Department is responsible for enforcing Municipal Code regulations on private property throughout the city. The Ontario Municipal Code regulates parking on private property, zoning, property maintenance, and other substandard conditions on residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

The City contracts with several other agencies to assist with enforcement of regulations. For instance, the San Bernardino County Land Use Services Department conducts weed abatement, and Animal Control is provided by the Inland Valley Humane Society.

For more information, contact the Code Enforcement Department at (909) 395-2007.

How do I find out if something is a violation?

Information on residential property maintenance regulations can be found by reviewing the information on this site. Also, you can follow a link to the Ontario Municipal Code on-line and research for specific regulations.

How do I file a complaint?

Complaints may be filed by calling the Code Enforcement office directly (909) 395-2007 (Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or 24-hours a day on the Code Violation Hotline (909) 395-2278). Complaints may also be lodged using the on-line complaint form.

Addresses or specific locations (i.e., the northwest corner of an intersection or one lot east of a specific address) are required to file a complaint. You will also need a description of the alleged violation. Complainant information is kept strictly confidential and is not released outside of the Code Enforcement office.
