AWARD A CONTRACT FOR THE INSTALLATION OF TREMCO ROOF SYSTEM AT ANTHONY MUNOZ COMMUNITY CENTER |
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council award Contract No. PK 0809-04 to Best Contracting Services of Gardena, California, for the installation of a new Tremco Roof System at the Anthony Munoz Community Center in the amount of $105,890 plus a 15% contingency ($15,884) for a total of $121,774; authorize the City Manager to execute said contract (on file in the Records Management Department); and authorize the filing of the Notice of Completion at the conclusion of all construction activities related to the project.
COUNCIL GOALS: Invest In The City’s Infrastructure (Water, Streets, Sewers, Parks, Storm Drains and Public Facilities
FISCAL IMPACT: The Fiscal Year 2008-09 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) One-Year Action Plan, approved by City Council on May 6, 2008, includes appropriations OF $80,000 for the roof replacement construction work. The total cost of this contract is $121,774 including a 15% contingency. A balance of $41,774 remains, which is to be funded by project savings from the completed CDBG sidewalk rehabilitation project on Fifth Street between Baker and Corona Avenues. There is no impact to the General Fund.
BACKGROUND: The Anthony Munoz Community Center roof is approximately 20 years old and requires increased maintenance due to deterioration. The recommended Tremco Burmastic Rock-It system roof is an energy-efficient “Cool Roof” that meets California Title 24 specifications using reflective and UV resistant materials. The new roof system will provide better drainage, faster evaporation and lower roof-top temperatures thus increasing life-expectancy. In addition, by reducing roof-top temperatures this roof system decreases the interior building temperatures and reduces the building’s air conditioning and energy needs.
The total area to be re-roofed is approximately 5,876 square feet of low slope built-up roof and approximately 855 square feet of shingle.
On January 5, 2009, nine (9) bids were received. Best Contracting Services submitted the lowest bid. A bid summary table is shown below.
