International Trade

On a global scale, changes in transportation, communication and information technology are affecting the way businesses choose locations and remain competitive. International trade is having profound implications for regions and cities throughout California. The Inland Empire’s total two-way trade in 2004 is estimated at $8.1 billion or 10.6% of the region’s personal income.

With this understanding, the City of Ontario has been strategically implementing policies to position itself as a “global gateway”. Expanding on our successful trade mission program, we now have a representative office in Shenzhen, China. If you need assistance in identifying Chinese partners, exporting or importing products or would like to learn more about doing business in China, the City of Ontario’s Economic Development Department can help.

Some of the free services offered for China include:

Match-making for Ontario businesses

Screening and background checks on Chinese prospects

Identifying quality service providers in China (Attorneys, CPA etc.)

Coordination with the Chinese government

Industry research

The objective of this program is to enable small and medium sized Ontario enterprises explore opportunities in the Chinese marketplace. If you would like more information about Ontario’s International Trade program, please contact:

“We would not be in China if it weren’t for the City of Ontario’s proactive assistance. They created a path for us and saved us significant time and money in making our business goals in China a reality. Even as a mid-size business, we need to think globally to succeed in this economy. Doing business in China will ensure that we stay competitive. The City clearly has the best intentions for mid-sized companies like us. They value our business, recognizing that our success is their success.”
